To buy or not to buy

September 2nd, 2006 at 01:32 am

Just a heads up.

Listerine has started selling a new mouth rinse for kids called Agent Cool Blue which is supposed to work like a disclosing solution - it should show you the spots which have plaque by tinting them a blue color and then you can do a better job brushing and flossing.

I have heard from a few different people that it just does not work. I have not tried it, but after hearing this from other hygienists that have tried it, I probably will not be buying it.

If you have tried it, please let me know what you think!

I bought some (with a coupon of course!). It works okay. It does make their teeth blue, but I don't think it encourages them to brush any harder. I like the ACT stuff. It works well on preventing their gum problems (and they have had MANY!)

If my son weren't allergic to blue coloring he'd probably just think it was cool to have blue teeth. Talk about a backfire.

Well, I talked to a company rep at a meeting I went to last week. She recommended that the Cool Blue be swished in the mouth for no less than 30 seconds. Great advice, but I find that even adults have a hard time keeping something in their mouths that long, so I am not so sure kids would be willing or able to achieve this standard! :/
